Peripheral Vision Sony has opened a lithium-ion battery plant in Singapore, where it plans to produce eight million batteries for cellular handsets each month. The plant, which cost $105 million, is expected to reach full capacity by 2010. PC World SanDisk Launches SDHC Card for New DSLRs SanDisk has released the SanDisk ExtremeIII 30MB/s Edition, a high-capacity SD flash memory card aimed at high-end DSLR cameras. The card, which is the first of its kind on the market, is able to reach file transfer speeds of 30MB per second, or 50 percent faster than the market’s fastest cards. The New York Times Intel to Sell Solid State Drives Intel will enter the solid state hard drive (SSD) market with the release of its X25-M and X18-M drives, offered in 80GB and 160GB capacities. While most SSDs are intended for use in laptops, Intel claims these drives are also aimed at the desktop and server market. InternetNews Internet Explorer 8 to Include Privacy Features Microsoft’s IE8 will include a privacy browsing feature, according to Microsoft, where users can choose to suspend the browser’s history, cookies and other personal information. The new feature, titled InPrivate, will be available in IE8 Beta 2, while the browser’s final version is expected in November. Reuters Comcast Offers Details on New System for Internet Traffic Throttling In response to FCC demands that it not focus on peer-to-peer protocols, Comcast is developing a new, protocol-agnostic approach to limiting the bandwidth of heavy users.
