CEA TO DISCUSS STANDARDS FOR DELIVERY OF 3D VIDEO CONTENT
CEA Invites Industry to Discovery Group Meeting During Industry Forum
| Arlington, Virginia | 8/6/2008 |
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®; today announced the formation of a discussion group to investigate the need for standards to address delivery and presentation of three dimensional (3D) video in the home. CEA will hold the first 3D Video Discovery Group meeting at its Technology & Standards Fall Forum held in conjunction with Industry Forum on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. The meeting will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PDT.
An industry standard for the delivery and presentation of 3D video content to the home could accelerate the market for 3D video use and prevent potential interoperability problems. CEA already operates nine standards formulating groups covering a broad spectrum of CE products, from in-home audio, video and home networking systems to in-vehicle information and entertainment systems.
“Currently, movies are being produced and shown in 3D in cinemas with advances in digital cinema improving the experience,” said Brian Markwalter, CEA vice president, Technology & Standards. “Pre-packaged content and games have the storage and processing power to deliver 3D video, and televisions are available today that can render 3D content. Standards ensuring 3D content is usable to the maximum extent by consumers will benefit the industry.”
Participation in CEA standards and activities is open to any company, organization or individual with direct and material interest. CEA invites specific ideas for industry standards related to the delivery and presentation of in-home 3D video at the Discovery Group meeting at the Technology & Standards Fall Forum. Contact Brian Markwalter at 703-907-7441 or bmarkwalter@CE.org to request time on the agenda to discuss a specific standards proposal.
