SHAPIRO COMMENDS E-WASTE REPORT BY UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
CEA® Hopeful Study Will Pave the Way for Industry Consensus
| Arlington, Virginia | 7/18/2006 |
The following statement was issued today by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) President and CEO, Gary Shapiro regarding "Recycling Technology Products: An Overview of E-Waste Policy Issues", a study released today by the United States Department of Commerce:
"CEA commends and appreciates this significant commitment of time and resources by the Department of Commerce. This report is not only an invaluable synthesis of the complex components, views and challenges of the electronics recycling issue, it also highlights the need for the elimination of the current state-by-state approach and reiterates the importance of a national solution. CEA is committed to working with all interested parties to develop a national, unified approach to the e-waste challenge.
"We believe that this has been an important and productive stakeholder exercise. Likewise, this comprehensive evaluation will surely serve as a useful tool for lawmakers and policymakers to engage in an informed e-cycling debate. CEA is hopeful this overview will stimulate a constructive industry conversation that will pave the way for industry consensus and a national electronics recycling solution."
