CEA WELCOMES THE CONFIRMATION OF SUSAN SCHWAB AS UNITED STATES TRADE REPRESENTATIVE

Arlington, Virginia 6/9/2006

The following statement was issued today by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) Vice President, International Elizabeth Hyman regarding the confirmation of Susan Schwab as the United States Trade Representative (USTR):

"CEA welcomes the confirmation of Ms. Schwab as USTR and congratulates her on her new post. Now more than ever, Ms. Schwab's leadership is needed to gain traction in the World Trade Organization (WTO) Doha Round negotiations, as well as to pursue important free trade negotiations with Korea and Malaysia.

"As is the case for many industries, serious challenges and great opportunities exist for the consumer electronics industry in the global marketplace. CEA looks forward to working with Ambassador Schwab to develop strong, balanced approaches to the issues before us."
