CEA Applauds Virginia Agreement with Uber and Lyft

The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, regarding Virginia’s decision to give Uber and Lyft temporary authority to operate in the state, Maryland’s designation of Uber as common carrier, and the Washington, D.C. Taxicab Commission’s adoption of further ride-sharing regulations: “We are thrilled the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has ‘righted a previous wrong’ by granting Uber and Lyft temporary authority to operate. This decision clears a path for ride-sharing services to enjoy a permanent home in the Commonwealth and provides Virginians with safer, more affordable transportation options. This move will help protect jobs, create new employment opportunities and reinforce Virginia’s global position as pro-business.

CEA Foundation Awards Grant to BridgingApps

The CEA Foundation, a charitable organization affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, announced its support of BridgingApps, a project of the Easter Seals of Houston with a grant to support their work in identifying accessibility apps. The funding will expand BridgingApps’ website content, create filters, allow them to develop self-directed online instruction and provide in-person trainings for seniors and other adults with disabilities focused on the use of mobile devices and apps to improve their physical, mental and cognitive health outcomes. CEA Cataloguing Driver Safety Products and Services

Today, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® announced it is developing a technical report to document the products and services offered by the consumer electronics (CE) industry that help make the driving experience safer. The report, planned for release at the 2015 International CES®, January 6-9, 2015 in Las Vegas, will educate drivers about the wide array of CE technologies designed to improve safety and awareness behind the wheel. CEA Contributes $1 Million to CEA Foundation in Honor of Industry Visionary Jack Wayman

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced a $1 million contribution to the CEA Foundation in celebration of the more than 50 years of achievements and contributions to the consumer technology industry made by industry veteran Jack Wayman. Best known as the founder of the International CES®, held in Las Vegas every January, Wayman is widely recognized in the consumer electronics (CE) industry for his significant public policy and tradeshow leadership and contributions, including his successful efforts defending the CE industry in the landmark Sony Betamax case. The CEA Foundation’s mission is to link seniors and people with disabilities with technologies to enhance their lives. This charitable foundation, affiliated with CEA, launched its first series of grants in 2012.  Full Release
