Owning Innovation: CEA Study Shows Major Shifts in the Technology We Own

A major shift in the consumer electronics (CE) products owned by U.S. households is now underway, according to the 17th Annual CE Ownership and Market Potential Study released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. Smartphones are now the third most-owned CE product in the country, trailing only televisions and DVD/Blu-ray players, a key reason why ownership of digital content is now poised to surpass traditional content within the next few years. CEA and Carriers Partner on PlugFest For Network and IoT Compatibility

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced the successful completion of the first IPv6 PlugFest to combine carriers, consumer electronics (CE) companies and industry groups – enabling CE manufacturers to test their devices with the carrier networks and the customer premise equipment supplied to millions of American homes. For the technical event, CEA partnered with AT&T, Comcast, Verizon Wireless, the University of New Hampshire’s InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), and UPnP Forum. “This kind of event is essential to resolve the myriad of small details needed for true, efficient interoperability,” said Brian Markwalter, senior vice president of Research & Standards, CEA.
