Arlington, VA – 03/22/2012 – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®
today applauds Walter Alcorn for being named the 2011 Fairfax County Citizen of the Year by the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations. Alcorn, who serves as vice president of environmental affairs and industry sustainability for CEA, is a 25-year resident of Fairfax County, Va., the country’s 36th largest county with 1.08 million residents.
Since 1997 Alcorn has served as vice chairman of the Fairfax County Planning Commission. The Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations will present Alcorn with the award at a dinner on March 25 in McLean, Va.
“Walter Alcorn works exhaustively for the citizens of Fairfax County and this award is a well-deserved acknowledgement of his devotion to our community,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. “We see firsthand the type of coalition-building Walter does on a regular basis as he brings our industry together to recycle one billion pounds of consumer electronics annually by 2016. I’m thankful for Walter’s incredible contributions to CEA, Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
Alcorn also coaches in Reston Little League, manages Reston Warriors 12U baseball team and serves as a member of the steering committee for his Sunday school class at the United Christian Parish.
