The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today hailed a new era in power consumption transparency for consumers: new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requirements call for removable, detailed yellow-and-black labels that disclose the product’s estimated annual energy cost to be attached to all TVs manufactured after May 10th. INDEPENDENT AUDIT CONFIRMS RECORD INTERNATIONAL ATTENDANCE AT THE 2011 INTERNATIONAL CES

The International CES® today announced that 31,677 industry professionals from outside the U.S. attended the 2011 International CES January 6-9, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Up 30 percent from last year, international attendance at the 2011 CES set a new record for the show’s 45 year history.  An independent audit, performed by Veris Consulting LLC, confirms CES’ status as the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow and North America’s largest annual tradeshow of any kind. Overall, the 2011 International CES welcomed 149,529 technology attendees during its four day run. Full Release

CEA'S INNOVATION MOVEMENT URGES AMERICANS TO TAKE ACTION TO END THE SPECTRUM CRUNCH

On March 16, 2010, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) unveiled a bold plan to address the nation’s shortage of wireless broadband capability by repurposing unused broadcast spectrum, but intense lobbying by broadcast television stations has stalled progress on this vital program. Today, the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA)® Innovation Movement launches the Spectrum Crunch Clock to help Americans visualize the economic costs of delay in spectrum reform. CEA ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE PROMOTION

Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® President and CEO Gary Shapiro today announced that Brian Markwalter has been promoted to senior vice president, research and standards. Under Markwalter’s leadership, CEA’s Technology & Standards program hosts more than 70 groups that produce standards used in millions of consumer devices and are referenced by EPA, FCC and other government agencies. Markwalter also directs CEA’s market research department, which has a rich 75-year history of producing objective research, tracking sales data and forecasting trends.  Full Release

CEA MOURNS THE LOSS OF INDUSTRY PIONEER SIDNEY HARMAN

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® mourns the loss of Sidney Harman. Dr. Harman was executive chairman of Newsweek, chairman of the Academy for Polymathic Study at the University of Southern California, founder of Harman Industries and a Consumer Electronics (CE) Hall of Fame inductee. At the age of 92, Dr. Harman passed away Tuesday due to complications from acute myeloid leukemia.  Full Release
