The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today released its inaugural Innovation Scorecard, a first-of-its-kind innovation performance index based on ten criteria. The Scorecard evaluates all 50 states and Washington, D.C., according to the conduciveness of their legal, regulatory and overall business environments to welcome and encourage innovation in 2014. The Scorecard’s inaugural Innovation Champions – those states that earned the highest grades – are Delaware, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia. Today, the presidents and chairmen of the boards of 145 universities that oppose the Innovation Act (H.R.9) received letters from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® urging them to reverse their resistance to the bill and remove their institution’s name from a February 24 opposition letter. The bill is fair, common-sense legislation that would curb abusive patent litigation by patent trolls, while protecting inventors, innovative companies, research institutions and licensors such as universities.
