Repair Codes In the early 1990s many manufacturers and third party administrators developed unique repair codes for warranty claims. Multiple codes caused confusion and errors throughout the service industry. In 1997, the Consumer Electronics Association worked with manufacturers nationwide to develop a uniform list of repair codes as a way to streamline the warranty claims process. The codes were updated in March 2003 to keep pace with new product developments. This industry-wide reference listing includes codes for customer complaints and servicer repair action for use on electronic and paper warranty claim forms.
