Walter Fisher

Walter Fisher, former chairman of Zenith Electronics Corp., was one of the consumer electronics industry's top sales and marketing executives. A 23-year Zenith veteran, he was a persuasive speaker whose speeches were the highlights of many sales meetings. Fisher began working for Zenith Sales, a subsidiary of the Glenview-based Zenith Radio Corp., in 1961 and was named president in 1968. That year he also was elected marketing vice president of the parent company, and served as chairman of the corporation for one year until he retired in 1984. Fisher started his career with Montgomery Ward in 1946 as a buyer. He moved on to Associated Merchandising Corp. as appliance merchandising manager in 1952. Two years later he became vice president in charge of sales for Norge Sales Corp., where he remained until joining Zenith. He was an active participant in the affairs of the Electronic Industries Association, serving as chairman of the EIA Consumer Electronics Group (CEG), vice president of EIA and a member of the EIA Board of Governors. In addition, he fostered the autonomy of CEG, and its Consumer Electronics Show (CES), within EIA. He was an outstanding marketer for the consumer electronics industry and helped Zenith gain its premier reputation.
