Brakensiek received his undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Dortmund, Germany in 1994 and 1999 respectively. He then joined Nokia’s Research Center in Germany in 1999, where he worked on various computing architecture projects, including SoC architectures, reconfigurable accelerators, multi-processors and mobile virtualization. Dean Kamen is an inventor, an entrepreneur, and a tireless advocate for science and technology. His roles as inventor and advocate are intertwined—his own passion for technology and its practical uses has driven his personal determination to spread the word about technology's virtues and by so doing to change the culture of the United States.

As an inventor, he holds more than 440 U.S. and foreign patents, many of them for innovative medical devices that have expanded the frontiers of health care worldwide. While still a college undergraduate, he invented the first wearable infusion pump, which rapidly gained acceptance from such diverse medical specialties as chemotherapy, neonatology, and endocrinology. In 1976, he founded his first medical device company, AutoSyringe, Inc., to manufacture and market the pumps. At age 30, he sold that company to Baxter Healthcare Corporation. By then, he had added a number of other infusion devices, including the first wearable insulin pump for diabetics.
Following the sale of AutoSyringe, Inc., he founded DEKA Research & Development Corporation to develop internally generated inventions as well as to provide research and development for major corporate clients. Kamen led DEKA's development of the HomeChoiceTM peritoneal dialysis system for Baxter International Inc. The HomeChoiceTM system allows patients to be dialyzed in the privacy and comfort of their home and quickly became the worldwide market leader. Kamen also led the development of technology to improve slide preparation for the CYTYC (now Hologic Inc.) ThinPrep® Pap Test. Kamen-led DEKA teams have also developed critical components of the UVARTM XTSTM System, an extracorporeal photophereisis device marketed by Therakos, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, for treatment of T-Cell lymphoma. An advanced prosthetic arm in development for DARPA should advance the quality of life for returning injured soldiers. Other notable developments include the HydroflexTM surgical irrigation pump for C.R. Bard, the CrownTM stent, an improvement to the original Palmaz-Schatz stent, for Johnson & Johnson, the iBOTTM mobility device, and the Segway® Human Transporter.
Kamen has received many awards for his efforts. Notably, Kamen was awarded the National Medal of Technology in 2000. Presented by President Clinton, this award was in recognition for inventions that have advanced medical care worldwide, and for innovative and imaginative leadership in awakening America to the excitement of science and technology. Kamen was also awarded the Lemelson-MIT Prize in 2002, and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in May 2005. He is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical & Biological Engineering, and has been a member of the National Academy of Engineering since 1997.
 
 
In 2010, Dean hosted the Planet Green television series Dean of Invention.

Schroeder leads AFB’s efforts to improve services and policies for people with vision loss, legislative and public policy, research and demographic trends, training for service providers, and efforts to improve access to information and communication technology. He also oversees AFB’s comprehensive Web-based technology magazine, AccessWorld: Technology and People Who are Blind or Visually Impaired and is actively involved in strategic planning, budget preparation and organization policy setting.

 

Throughout his career, he has worked for coalition building, collaboration and constructive dialog around disability issues. He was vice chair for the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities and chair for the Alliance for Public Technology. He helped organize strategic action efforts including the Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology (COAT) and the Reading Rights Coalition. His work with COAT led to the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act.

Schroeder is known for fostering greater access to mobile phones and other mainstream technology and was a leading advocate in the successful effort to amend the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to improve access to textbooks for students who are blind or visually impaired.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and international studies from American University. He lives in Maryland with his wife and two daughters.

Jake Sigal mashed up music and tech to make Livio. He quit his XM product management gig at Delphi at the age of 26, vowing to do things differently. Bolstered by a $10,000 loan from his parents, he combined his two passions, engineering and music, and started Livio in 2008 from the guest bedroom of his home in Ferndale, MI.

Sigal’s rule-breaking style quickly established Livio as a leader in the car Internet radio industry. It also made him an accredited young entrepreneur. Through partnerships with venture capital firms and angel investors, he raised millions to fund the Livio Radio brand born under his own roof.

Before starting Livio, Sigal worked at Numark as a product developer, where he invented the original ION USB turntable and co-invented the iDJ. After that, he jumped to Delphi’s consumer electronics group, working as a product line manager for XM Satellite Radio, where he built a budding bromance with his boss, Massimo Baldini, who’s now Livio’s president.

Before he set the consumer electronics world on fire with his innovations, Sigal earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering at Ohio University. He now sits on the university’s Russ College of Engineering Board of Advisors. Taylor represents the company before the U.S. government and in industry organizations.  He also is chief media spokesman and public relations strategist for LG Electronics in the United States.

 

Taylor represents LG Electronics on the board of directors of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and on the AHAM Major Appliance and Floor Care division boards. He serves on the Board of Industry Leaders and Video Division Board of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). He is Chairman of the CEA Communications Committee and a member of the CEA Foundation Board, the CEA Government Affairs Council and the judging committee for the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame. Taylor serves on the Advanced Television Systems Committee board of directors, as well as the Steering Committee of the Open Mobile Video Coalition Manufacturers’ Forum.  He serves boards of trustees of The Media Institute and the Library of American Broadcasting.

 

His industry experience includes serving as past Chairman of the CEA Video Division and former Chairman of the CEA HDTV Promotion Committee. He was a founder and former Chairman of the Plasma Display Coalition. Previously, Taylor also served on the boards of the Digital TV Transition Coalition, the ATSC Forum and the Museum of Broadcast Communications. Active in digital television since 1988, Taylor is a charter member of the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers (and recipient of its highest honor, the Industry Leadership Award).

 

Taylor joined Zenith in 1981 and was named the company’s senior public affairs executive in 1987 and a corporate officer in 1993. After designing shows and interactive experiences for ABC.com in 2007, Valenzuela created content for YouTube. His first venture, 2009 A True Story, earned him a Streamy nomination (Best Dramatic Series), millions of views and selection as one of Wes Craven’s top 10 horror directors when Craven was a YouTube editor in 2008. He then directed Harper's Globe, an online episodic Web companion to John Turtletaub's critically acclaimed TV show Harper's Island (CBS).
