Electronics Recycling

CEA understands that the treatment of electronic products at end-of-life is an increasingly important public policy challenge. States, municipalities, counties and other local governments confront an increase in discarded electronics products into the municipal solid waste stream. CEA believes that a national solution, which shares responsibility among all stakeholders and is based on sound science, is the most appropriate means to address this public policy challenge, primarily as a means to avoid an undesirable patchwork of state legislative mandates. Moreover, CEA supports market-driven environmental design initiatives, such as federal and state government programs on purchasing of environmentally-preferable devices.

Promoting the Recycling of Consumer Electronics - January 2008 [pdf]

myGreenElectronics.org
In under a year, myGreenElectronics.org has taught over 100,000 consumers about responsible purchasing, enjoyment and disposal of electronics. CEA continues to promote the site to consumers, legislators and press as part of an industry movement to bring old electronics out of basements and restore them to useful materials.

Brand Your Company As Environmentally Friendly
Host our recycler locator on your website and let your customers know you support better solutions for the end-of-life of electronics. And don’t forget to register your green products for free exposure on the site, which has been called a “treasure trove of information” by press from the LA Times, MSNBC, The Washington Post and PC World.

Check out other useful tools on myGreenElectronics.org:

  • A database of the latest eco-friendly electronics
  • Electronics recycling programs searchable by zip code
  • An energy-consumption calculator to learn how much power your products use and what this means for your wallet
  • A repair-versus-replace decision tree
  • Corporate recycling and donation options
  • Energy-saving and life-extending tips for the products you enjoy every day

CEA’s environmental policy team is happy to provide our members with know-how on state-by-state recycling laws, international chemical restrictions, energy efficiency standards and other related questions. For more information, contact publicpolicy@CE.org.
