CEA APPLAUDS HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE APPROVAL OF "RIGHT TO REPAIR" ACT
The following statement was issued today by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA
®
) Vice President of Government Affairs Michael Petricone in response to the U.S. House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection approval of the Motor Vehicle Owners Right to Repair Act. The bill would protect consumers' rights to upgrade and repair their automobiles where they want and with products of their choice:

NETWORKING STANDARD FOR IN-VEHICLE AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA
®
) announced today that its Mobile Electronics Committee has adopted a new standard for mobile electronics, CEA-2012-A, MOST
®
Network Gateway for Aftermarket Products. CEA-2012-A defines features needed to enable an aftermarket MOST network to communicate with mobile electronics products permitting those products to be more easily installed and operated. The aftermarket network can be used independent of any vehicle network, or it can be connected to a factory-installed network if the vehicle manufacturer chooses to provide a gateway function.

CEA URGES SWIFT CONGRESSIONAL ACTION ON "RIGHT TO REPAIR" ACT
The Consumer Electronics Association's (CEA
®
) President and CEO Gary Shapiro sent a letter to members of Congress urging the support of H.R. 2048, the Motor Vehicle Owners Right to Repair Act, introduced in 2005 by House Committee on Energy and Commerce Chairman Joe Barton (R-TX) and Representatives Edolphus Towns (D-NY) and Darrell Issa (R-CA). The bill would protect consumers' rights to upgrade and repair their automobiles where they want and with the products of their choice.

CEA Adopts MOST(R) Networking Standard For In-Vehicle Aftermarket Products
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced today that its Mobile Electronics Committee (R6) has adopted a new standard for mobile electronics, designated CEA-2012 -MOST Network Application. The standard provides a connectivity solution that makes it easier to install and use any type of aftermarket digital multimedia product in an in-vehicle network. CEA-2012 is based on the MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) specification, which is a fiber-optic automotive network for real-time data transfer, used in surround-sound systems and CD and DVD players.

CEA Urges House Subcommittee Not to Dismiss Driver’s Responsibility
”While technology can support safety on the road, driver focus and judgment are vital,” said Doug Johnson, director of technology policy for the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), in written testimony submitted today before the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit.
